“These are my nails, I just want an overlay on my natural nails.”

Today I had a new client.
The request was: remove GelX and “just do a simple overlay on my natural nails.”
And this is exactly the moment a lot of people don’t fully understand 👇
Very often I receive photos and messages like:
“These are my nails, I just want an overlay on my natural nails.”
But here’s the important part.
What you see on the photo is not your natural nails.
It’s a structure + product that is holding the length.
Once we remove everything, the reality looks different:
— the length is usually gone
— nails are uneven in shape
— there can be lifting
— the natural nail plate is often thin
And sometimes there is one more thing that makes the situation more complex.
On today’s client, after removal, there were
red lines on the nails — these are overfiled areas.
This usually happens in the tip connection area,
when the surface is filed too much to blend the product.
If the natural nail is already thin,
this becomes a serious issue.
What does this mean long-term?
At first — everything may look fine.
But as the nail grows out, that damaged area will move into the stress zone
(usually after 2–3 services). And this is when the nail may start cracking. And very often the client thinks the problem is the current service.
But in reality,
it’s the result of previously damaged nails.
And this is where real work begins — not just “doing a simple overlay.”
First we remove everything,
then we assess the condition,
and only after that we decide what is the best approach.
To be able to properly schedule my time and deliver a quality result,
I book these appointments as a correction.
Because in reality we are:
— reshaping the nails
— rebuilding the structure
— working with a weakened nail plate
And this takes more time.
Also important to understand :
This is not a one-time fix.
Full recovery usually takes
4–5 appointments (around 4–6 months)
until a healthy nail completely grows out.
My goal is not just to make it look good today,
but to make sure your nails stay healthy long-term.
